What if there was no Water?
Everyone should know that FRESH WATER (potable water) is our world’s most precious resource. That’s what I’d like to believe BUT, every day, you and I both see things that prove me wrong. What if there was no Fresh Water? Fresh Water is a key element to sustained life on this planet!
Fresh Water is probably the one single most wasted resource in our country, if not the world, on a day-to-day basis. There are so many ways that this precious resource is wasted or polluted so badly that it is no longer consumable, that this article would be hundreds of pages long if I cataloged and talked about them all (or all I know). Comment back to me on the ways you see fresh water wasted!
Fresh Water (lets call it that) use is being more and more regulated by state and federal governments not only here at home in the USA but, in many countries around the world. We take the fresh water resource for granted here in the USA (seems to me) and do not realize how limited our supply really is. Parts of the United States (California, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and the desert areas in particular) are feeling the crunch of the shortage even today. Think about all the ways we use fresh water in our daily lives. Think about how YOU waste or pollute the water. Think about the generations to come that will suffer from fresh water shortages as the world population grows.
One of the largest fresh water wasting offenders is irrigation (lawn and landscape sprinkler) systems. Typically, more than 50% of the water sprayed in an irrigation system does not get to or benefit the vegetation that it was intended for. That’s right… that means your irrigation system could be as little as 50% efficient! This is especially true for older irrigation / sprinkler systems. Those irrigation systems that were designed and installed more than a couple of years ago are terribly inefficient. There are many available improvements or upgrades to your sprinkler system that can be (and should be) done to improve the “water efficiency” of your irrigation system.
Remember, Fresh Water is a key element to sustained life on this planet. Fresh water pollution is a HUGE problem throughout the world. There are ways to make fresh water from seawater (fresh salt water… huh? Yep… it can happen and does) and extract water from the air but, these are expensive processes. If this is where we end up, your fresh water supply could cost as much or more than gasoline! We CAN live without gasoline. It won’t be fun but…. We CAN live!!!
What happens when there is no fresh water? What will we do? Think about the fresh water you use and TRY your BEST to avoid WASTE!! Conserve Water! Take one small step… convert your freshwater aquarium to a saltwater aquarium! The fish are more fun!!
